Any league rules that deviate from the standard ESPN rulebook are outlined below. We have our own quirky little guidelines for each owner to make themselves familiar.
League Entry Fee & Payout
$25 due by draft night. The list below details the payout at the end of the playoffs. (based on 12 team league)
- 1st $150*
- 2nd $75
- 3rd $50
- 4th $25 (free season)
* In the odd event of a championship game ending in a tie (after the “Mini Game” Playoff), the two tied teams will split the earnings of the 1st and 2nd place payouts.
The Draft Date
Our live online draft is historically held on the Sunday closest to the start of the NFL season, so long as it does not coincide with Labor Day. For example, if Labor Day is the weekend before the start of the NFL season, then our draft will be held on the weekend prior to that.
Draft Order
The draft order in our league is determined randomly with an official drawing from a hat. This event normally kicks off our season a few weeks or a month prior to the league draft. The official drawing is typically held in the company of at least one other MFL team owner, however, no one technically has to be present for the drawing to be official. I reserve that right in the event that I become a recluse.
Waivers and F.A.A.B.
Each team is issued $100 at the beginning of the regular season. The cash is used to bid on players in silent auction format. The first auction of the week is held on Wednesday, with subsequent auctions held each day thereafter (Wed-Mon). There is no auction on Tuesday. This allows the build up of bids to be placed so everyone has a fair chance to win the best players on Wednesday. The minimum amount required to bid on a player is $0.
At the start of the playoffs we return to a normal waiver priority order. Waivers are claimed in the reverse of the playoff seeds.
Ties, Playoffs and Championship Game
If two or more teams finish the season with the same winning percentage, the playoff seed tie-break will go as follows:
- Head to Head Record*
- Record Within Division
- Total Points Scored
Ties during the quarter and semi-final playoff weeks (any week before the championship) will be awarded to the team that scored the most points during the regular season.
During the MFL Bowl Championship Game, ties will be settled in with the MFL Tie-Breaking Mini Fantasy Game.
“The game that puts your true fantasy prognosticating skills to the test for one single week.”
Each team owner will choose one QB, one RB, and one WR to compete in the following week. They may select ANY player at those positions from the entire NFL. They are not restricted to choosing one from their current roster.
The combination of QB, RB, WR, that compiles the most fantasy points during the following week will be awarded MFL Champion for that year. In the event there is still a tie at this point, the team with the better playoff seed will be awarded champion just so we can put the season to rest, however prize money will be split between the two teams. They will split the sum of the 1st and 2nd place earnings.
