“Ittttt’s Time!”

This week we celebrate the 10th anniversary of our championship bowl series! Is there a more appropriate way of doing so, than to welcome a brand new champion? Andy Rick and Frank Fiore will wage battle to become the championship of our decade long fantasy football league.

Our contenders come from very different MFL fantasy backgrounds. This week brings together two compelling stories.

After 10 years of waiting, Frank arrives at his first MFL Championship Bowl game…. and “Ittttt’s Time!”

Frank has been with the league since its inception in 2003. His lifetime record stands at an even 62 wins and 62 losses. Last season, Frank made the playoffs for the first time in his MFL career and finished in 3rd place. The near-miss seemed to provide Frank with a lust for victory that can only be satisfied with a championship. He’s back, and he’s hungry! A hungry Frank once destroyed his competition in a Comiskey Park hot dog eating contest, and he’ll be looking to do the same against Andy Rick this week.

Frank has won both lifetime meetings between the two teams, including a 78.3-61.9 victory in their only regular season meeting in 2012.

“I’m feeling great and well rested. Looking forward to the tough battle for the championship this weekend.” ~ Frank

Andy’s rise to the top was quick and ferocious, but not without a few hiccups along the way.

It was just a season ago when Andy Rick joined the MFL. While it may seem like a short time ago for you, rest assured it was a long one for Andy. After a 2-12 debut and a last place finish, Andy spent the entire offseason apologizing to me and vowing he would be better in 2012. To be honest, he wasn’t even confident that he would be welcomed back to the league. Well, he did come back and he kept his promise. A 6-2 start to the 2012 season all but assured the league that 2011 was a blip on the radar in what appears to be a promising career for our potential ’12 champion.

I believe the old saying simply goes, “What’s in a name?” To Andy, the name might mean everything. He attributes his success to the name he chose for his team back in August.

“Redemption started by finally finding the right team name- that has made all the difference!” ~Andy

The backdrop has been set on what is shaping up to be a great finish to our milestone season. So, let’s look forward to the weekend. Neither team has any players in Thursday’s game. Our entire championship will be settled on Sunday (Rosters current as of Wed evening, anyway)

Cast your vote for the champion of MFL Bowl 10 in our weekly poll question on the ESPN home page.

Good luck to both Frank and Andy this week, and thank you to everybody else for playing this season. The league is nothing without each and every one of you!
