Playoff Picture – Final Week
By Jim Payseur on December 4, 2012
After 12 weeks, we have had our first teams clinch the playoffs. Frank the Tank has sealed up the Kracklauer Division with a record at (8-5) and the next closest team at (6-7).
Urlaching Talent has also clinched a playoff spot. Even if Andy Rick’s team loses and finishes tied at 8-6 with Jerry Angelo, Rose Thorns, and/or Arian Nation for the Wild Card, he will win the tie-breaker to claim either the Rocket Ship Division title or the Wild Card.
That leaves two open playoff spots and in each case, the teams competing for them are head-to-head this week to decide who goes in and who gets left out of contention for our league championship.
Arian Nation vs. The Shockers
If Bill’s Shockers win, he will tie Markham’s record at (8-6). The two teams will have split their head-to-head series and both will finish the season with a (4-2) divisional record. The 3rd tie-breaker is points scored. The Shockers already have a lead, and would be guaranteed to finish ahead, taking the Memorial Division title. Arian Nation needs to win or tie to claim the division title.
Rose Thorns vs. Jerry Angelo
This game only matters IF Arian Nation beat the Shockers. Jerry Angelo will win a tie-breaker for head-to-head matchups vs. Rose Thorns, but a 3-way tie with Rose Thorns and Arian Nation would change the tie-breaker to points scored and Rose Thorns would win (unless Jerry Angelo can score 72 more points than them).
Everybody else is OUT of contention for the playoffs. The other games this week will decide seeding for the playoffs, but I won’t cover those scenarios.
